Walnut is a classic color in furniture. Its rich, dark brown color is both elegant and minimalist, and perfectly complements various interior design styles. From modern to traditional settings, walnut furniture adds a touch of sophistication and warmth. Its versatility in blending with other colors and materials makes it a popular choice for designers and homeowners alike. The deep, natural tones of walnut wood bring out the beauty of any room, making it a timeless and enduring choice for high-quality furniture.

What you'll need:

  • Varathane Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner: This isn't necessary, but it makes any stain that you put on wood look less blotchy and more even. If you can manage to get it, you should.
  • Varathane Premium Gel Stain - Get the smallest one you can of this. A little goes a long way. You can find this stuff at Home Depot or any similar big box store.
  • Varathane Top Coat - Little goes a long way. Adds extra protection of your piece.
  • Any rubber gloves if you don't want to stain your hands.
  • Rag or brush, either will work fine.

Directions:

  1. Clean your piece to remove dust.
  2. Lay pieces flat on cardboard or newspaper.
  3. Liberally Apply Pre-Stain conditioner evenly to surfaces you're going to stain. Wipe off any excess.
  4. Let sit for at least 30 minutes
  5. Flip and repeat on all surfaces you will stain.
  6. Apply stain with brush or rag liberally.
  7. Let sit for 2-5 minutes in order to penetrate wood.
  8. Wipe off any excess evenly with a clean paper towel.
  9. Let dry for at least an hour, preferably longer.
  10. Flip and repeat steps 6-9 on all surfaces.
  11. Repeat again if you want a dark, richer look.
  12. Apply a clear Gel Topcoat of your choice (Satin is popular)
