Small tables that fit where big furniture can't
Not every room has space for a full-size end table. Sometimes you need a surface that holds a drink, a book, or a lamp without taking over the corner. That's what these small tables are for. Every piece here was designed for tight spots: narrow hallways, small bedrooms, apartment living rooms, and anywhere else where square footage is limited but you still need a place to set things down.
Our Mini Side Table is just 10 inches wide but holds up to 30 pounds. The Side Table gives you a slightly larger surface when you have the room for it. The Modern Nightstand works as a bedside table without crowding the path between bed and wall. All are made from 13-ply Baltic birch plywood, assemble in under two minutes without tools, and ship unfinished so you can match any room.
Every piece ships flat and clicks together by hand. No tools, no allen wrenches, no leftover hardware.
In stock and ready to ship from San Diego. No eight-week backorder waits.
Designed for tight rooms. Narrow profiles, low heights, and footprints that don't block walkways or crowd furniture.
Raw Baltic birch is a blank canvas. Stain it dark walnut, paint it white, or let the natural plywood grain do the talking.

Small Tables, Room by Room
Six spots where a small table solves a problem bigger furniture creates.
A Mini Side Table next to the sofa holds a drink, a remote, and a candle without eating into the walkway. At 10 inches wide, it fits between the couch and the wall in spots where a standard end table would block the path. Pair two of them on either side of the sofa for a balanced look without the bulk.
When the gap between bed and wall is under 14 inches, a full nightstand won't fit. The Modern Nightstand was built for exactly this. It holds a phone, a glass of water, and a reading lamp without crowding the path. In even tighter bedrooms, the Mini Side Table works as a bedside surface that barely registers in the room. See our nightstand guide for small apartments.
Not every entryway has room for a console table. A Side Table by the door gives you a landing pad for keys, sunglasses, and mail without blocking the hallway. The narrow depth keeps foot traffic moving. In a studio apartment, it doubles as the only surface between the front door and the kitchen.
A Mini Side Table next to your desk holds a coffee mug, notebook, or phone without taking desk space. It keeps your primary work surface clear while keeping essentials within arm's reach. A Side Table also works as a printer stand or supply station beside a smaller desk.
Stools double as small accent tables when you don't need the seating. The No Tool Stool and A-Stool both have flat tops that hold a plant, a stack of books, or a candle. Move them wherever you need an extra surface and tuck them away when you don't. No commitment to a permanent spot.
In a studio or one-bedroom, every piece needs to earn its space. A Round Coffee Table centers the room without sharp corners catching your hip in a tight layout. Surround it with a Mini Side Table and a Side Table and you've got surfaces throughout the apartment without a single piece feeling oversized. Read our coffee table guide for small apartments.
Small Table Questions, Answered
What size should a small side table be?
A small side table should sit roughly level with the arm of your sofa or the top of your mattress, usually between 20 and 26 inches tall. Width depends on the gap you're filling. Our Mini Side Table is 10 inches wide and 22 inches tall, which fits next to almost any sofa or bed without blocking a walkway. The Side Table is slightly larger at 14 inches wide for rooms where you have a bit more breathing room. Both hold up to 30 pounds despite their compact size. See our side table sizing guide for help picking the right dimensions.
Can a stool work as a small end table?
Absolutely. A flat-topped stool is one of the most versatile small surfaces you can own. The No Tool Stool is 18 inches tall with a flat top that works as a plant stand, drink table, or book rest. The A-Stool does the same at a slightly different height. The advantage over a dedicated end table: when guests come over, you've got extra seating. When they leave, it goes back to being a surface.
How do you finish a small unfinished wood table?
Small tables are the easiest pieces to finish because there's less surface area to cover. A single coat of matte polyurethane takes about five minutes and dries in a few hours. For color, chalk paint covers in one coat without sanding. Dark walnut stain is our most popular finish and transforms Baltic birch into something that looks three times the price. The Mini Side Table is a great first project if you've never finished wood before. See our guide to painting unfinished wood for step-by-step instructions.
