What size desk fits in a small room?
For bedrooms and studios, a desk under 48 inches wide and 24 inches deep fits most spaces. The Modern Desk sits within this range, leaving enough room for a chair to push back without hitting the bed or wall. In very tight rooms, angle the desk in a corner to use the diagonal space. Is plywood strong enough for a desk?
13-ply Baltic birch plywood is used in workbenches, studio furniture, and cabinetry. It's stronger than the laminated particle board in most consumer desks. The Modern Desk holds a monitor, laptop, books, and supplies without flexing. The cross-laminated layers prevent warping over time. Unlike solid wood, plywood doesn't split or crack with seasonal humidity changes.
How do you finish an unfinished wood desk?
For a work surface, we recommend sealing with matte water-based polyurethane. It protects against coffee rings, ink marks, and daily wear while keeping the natural look.
