Side Tables & Accent Furniture

Side tables that frame how you use a room, not just hold a cup

Side tables do more than hold a cup of coffee — they frame how you use a room. These modern plywood side tables, end tables, and accent pieces are built from furniture-grade Baltic birch with clean, Scandinavian-inspired lines. Light in the room, solid in daily use.

Use the Side Table next to a sofa, the Mini Side Table in tight bedrooms or guest rooms, and the Modern Nightstand as a compact bedside surface. Every piece ships flat from our San Diego workshop and assembles in minutes with no tools.

Side Table Questions, Answered

What size should a side table be?

The standard rule: pick a side table that’s within two inches of your sofa or chair’s arm height. Most sofa arms sit between 24 and 26 inches off the floor, so a side table in that range gives you a comfortable spot to set down a glass without reaching up or down.

For tight spaces, the Mini Side Table is 14 inches wide — narrow enough to slot between a couch and the wall. The full Side Table works as a sofa end table or accent piece.

What’s the difference between a side table and a nightstand?

Functionally, very little. Both are small surfaces designed to live next to seating or a bed. The differences come down to height and proportion: nightstands are usually 24–28 inches tall to sit at mattress height, while side tables for sofas trend a few inches lower.

The Modern Nightstand is sized for bedside use but works just as well as a side table in a small living room. The Side Table works in either spot if your bed sits low.

Are plywood side tables durable?

13-ply Baltic birch is one of the strongest sheet goods you can buy — it holds screws, resists warping, and stays flat over time in a way MDF and particle board don’t. The visible layered edges are the giveaway: real plywood, not laminate.

Our side tables ship unfinished, so you can seal them with polyurethane for extra moisture protection if you’re using them somewhere wet glasses are likely.
